I can't remember if I commented on this at the time, but I see a number of problems here.

First of all, it's double dipping. You're imposing AP loss and wounds at the same time, which seems overly harsh.

The second problem is that not all contests are combats, where such a mechanic would not be appropriate. A principle in HeroQuest is that all contests are treated equaly - no special rules just for combats. Also not all combats are lethal. My goal might be to wrestle someone to the ground, or trap them in a net, or drive them back off the stairs.
