Dave;

bizarrely, although the dropping of edges makes for less things to track, I do think it made equipment harder to handle. Before you just looked at it after the roll and asked "was this done with your sword? yes, so you get the edge." Now you have to figure it out before hand, which is somewhat at odds with the "roll the result then narrate to fit" nature of the system. Does your sword help defensively? Well, are you parrying with your sword, parrying with your shield, dodging, mostly dodging but waving your sword around to make him keep his distance....

This becomes even more of an issue when figuring out AP points. If you succesfully ambush someone, it can be argued that their starting AP should be based on their best awareness skill. But would you add armor to that, since it will reduce the effectiveness of the armor? Does a shield count, or only count if it is clearly deployed and not slung?

The more I've thought about this, the more of a head ache it seems to me!

I've not had a chance to narrate HQ yet, although I do hope to do so eventually. What I think I will do is roughly as follows:

Only when there was a situstion where the equipment had an effect on the target numbers in the first exchange would this affect starting AP (so your halberd would help your AP when started a duel type combat against shorter weapons, but not when someone leaps on your back from hiding).

However, maybe this would just end up being even more confusing and intrusive, I don't know.
