Two options I can see.
1) He's really dealing with souls/daimons but thinks he's dealing with Spirits because he doesn't understand about the different Otherworlds.

2) That alynx really did have a spirit - after all Yinkin is the son of a Spirit and I doubt if he lets a little matter of different Otherworlds get in the way of being with an attractive lady.
