That would still mean the HQ rules example in NB is wrong. It clearly shows Rurik getting onto the Other Side with a minor victory, and the HQ going ahead with a tie or better.
BTW, the plural of Shaman is Shamans. (I was possessed by a proofreading passion spirit at an early age).
