I think you hit a very meta-physical question here very quickly. Which is, before time, were there seperate planes in the sense that they are known since time began? So when you are in the god's war (the hero plane), in that time and place, was it possible, or more precisely even _meaningful_ to talk about a seperate spirit plane.
My suspicion is that there is not a distinct plane, just other parts of the "same" world (I use the quotes, because if I understand it properly the world was both combining and fragmenting all during this period, so while relevant bits would be "elsewhere in the world" depending on the when and where, other bits may seem like they were on a different world, which bring back the idea of openning a portal to it....). Now, it sounds like the spirit they want is relevant to the piece of the world they are in, so should be somehow reachable. But possibly what they need more is a ritual of some sort?
I'm certainly eager too to see the responses too!
