They are still in there, just not used as much. I still use them
regularly tho with my monsters... like zombies I give a -20 edge to
resist damage (they are dead)... so the players have to bid high to
do damage. Skeletons have a -20 edge vs pointy weapons. Strong
monsters, notably strong ones, get + edges as suggested in the rules.
Why they were dropped, like you say, but also I think they are prone
to abuse and become overly powerful if not tightly controlled. Plus
simplicity is the 'in thing' these days in games.
