  You can use it actively by, for example, stroking your Bladesharp blade down a friend's blade and persuading your magic to share. Your active use allows him to get the augment on his blade, and it still works on yours. Of course, it may be more useful in an extended contest where you have some prep time to do it on your own followers.   This allows you to get the, say, +3 from your Bladesharp 5W sword from each of your 6 fighting followers plus yourself to boost your AP by 18 more for the Extended Contest ambush you are about to spring.   Of course, you have duration problems, but that comes into the increase in the 14 resistance to putting the effect on the blades in the first place for long enough to be useful.

  It's also good when you are cooking, 'cos you can put in on your cleaver as well. And the axe for cutting down that elf and the adze for shaping that boat deck...
