Well, most of us were under the impression that this was a two part process. The one roll was for the mother to get through childbirth, and the second roll was to see if the child lived through the process. Actually you cold break it up further into Viability, Mother Surviva of Childbirth, Child Survival of Childbirth, Child Thriving. For a PC, this is starting to sound definitely like an extended contest that starts with getting impregnated, and ends with the child surviving to toddler status.

Would match my own personal experience with children. You could even make one longer to represent trying not only to have a child, but to have him come out as a productive member of society.
