I agree with pretty much everything you said, Andrew. Personally I might allow the holy day to augment directly, and whatnot (generally my criteria is if the player feels that it's important enough to mention it counts), but these are just personal calls.

Heck, I don't even mind the augment being used twice on two different levels in theory as long as the description of how the effect is working is different. For example, with your trading example, if, in fact, it's a holy day, and the other guy is of the same religion, maybe it does augment both my magic, and simply my presence as a representative of the diety on the holy day. Again, for me, it merely comes down to whether or not the player is willing to get the description in. I don't have players write down totals with augments because I want them to say them every single time - if they don't want to put the effort in, then it's not worthwhile enough to the contest to count. Which I think is cool because in one contest, Ill mannered manages to have an effect on a fight, and in another it does not. It's always best, to me, if the details are tailored each time to the situation.
