Theists don't have generic magical defense. They resist with whatever ability is most appropriate, just like everyone else. So a theist can resist fear magic with his Brave with no modifier (see p. 171), while a mystic can't really use his highly-trained virtue of 13w (since it would be at -20), and would also have to resort to something world-entangling like Brave.

Mystic strikes don't have their special effect until the target is at 0 AP (or less) -- was "10" a typo?

To answer an earlier question, a Humakti using his Death secret and failing would not be dead at 0 AP -- "he will suffer reduced consequences of the special effect."
