Secondary keywords

Hello all, I've a general HQ question related to character generation.

Situation: I'm running a game set in what amount to Mythic Ancient China, in the style of such films as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and House of Flying Daggers.

We use the List Method for character generation. One of my players is making a 'soldier captain of the prefecture'. For his Occupation Keyword, he picked Cavalry Soldier, Regular, which cool.

Then, as we went through his ten 'gimme' skills, he chose:
* Ambush

And then he said, "And I want something sort of general to denote my experience with the Brigands who've been troubling the Prefecture for the last couple seasons, so how about some kind of attribute like 'Veteran of the Brigand Invasions'?"

At which point I stopped him and said that "Veteran of the Brigand Invasions" should really be a new Keyword at 13, with Ambush and Tracking and these other related things under it.

So we wrote that down, but now I'm wondering about the mechanics of it, because I feel right now like I'm not doing it right. It seemed like just the thing to do, based on the example in the book, but in re-reading it, I'm unclear on a few things.

There's probably more questions I could ask about this, but these are the two main bits I need to get squared away before the game tonight. Thanks!
