But then the spirit talker isn't actually an _initiate_ of Whoever, is he? It seemed to me that's what Nikk's question was about, and the answer is no.

The shaman is still viewing the deity from within his own belief system, as a great spirit, and doesn't get affinities or travel to the godplane. Similarly, the theist orlanthi can try to worship Kolat as a sort of crude Storm god, but can never travel to the spirit plane or bind spirits. Right?
