Hi folks,

Josh makes an excellent point here:

"Do I have secrets? Sure. The NPCs say they want one thing, but they really want another. Or one NPC is secretly in love with another NPC, and that relationship causes trouble for the PCs. But the point of play isn't to figure out my secrets, the point of play is for the PCs to get what they want (with me throwing complications in the way)."

My only twist on that is that if I bother making a secret, I make sure that at some point in play, it comes out. My NPCs are very talkative- usually about other people's problems and virtues- some of which is true, some of which isn't- but then usually through the course of play, the heroes ferret out or discover which is which.

Remember, just like movies and books- if the audience doesn't know it, it doesn't exist.

Chris
