I really don't see why this is so hard. I mean, it's not like I've done some extensive study into this, but the answers all seem kinda obvious to me.

Flesh Man found how to develop these abilities in himself. He shows others how to do the same. I'm imagining what the Heortling hears, "First look inside your flesh closely. See the power there, the power that resides in all men? Now take that power and put it all into your legs..."

Heortling upon concentrating in theism, "Ranulf, I tried to Run Up the Hill today, as Flesh Man teaches. But I've been working on learning the ways of Destor to the distraction of all else, and am focused on being as he is, and I find that I cannot see into my flesh as I once could. And I feel, in fact, that if I did try to learn again to see into my flesh, I would ruin all of the training that I've had learning of mighty Destor. I feel that something has happened to me, moving me closer to the gods. I no longer feel the impure urges to seek the power of mortal men. You, too should consider dedicating your understanding to learning the ways of the gods Ranulf."

Ranulf replies, "I've done one better, my friend. I've gone beyond my simple initiation to Barntar, and am now devoted to him in a way that I can hardly describe. But from now on, I'll eschew not only Flesh Man, but any ritual that comes from any diety but the most holy Barntar."
