Page 48 "The heortling's ancestor, called Flesh man, *provides* common magic to the religion".

You need to decide how to interpret "provides".

Page 80 - Augmenting Others.
"If the person you augmented ends on the losing side, you suffer normal consequences of defeat in in a group contest..."

Yes, it's open to interpretation. Let the story be your guide - after all, if you augment the guy with magic from a safe distance, you shouldn't share his grisly fate when a huge boulder lands on his head, while if you augment him with "sword and shield" against Harrek...

The *intent* is that if you want to act as a follower, then you should be prepared to suffer like one. This shouldn't apply if you augment someone once, then jump in and fight the enemy yourself. Then you're being a good buddy, not a follower.
