Our common practice with simple contests is to allow everyone to augment themselves, and then use the resulting total to augment the "focus character." If it's an area of interest, we've found most characters can augment themselves by about +20. Admittedly much of this would be in the form of "Strong" or "Tough" or whatever, and wouldn't apply, but much would. It doesn't make sense to be able to get a +50 augment if you have 5 friends. With our practice, it ends up much more like +15.
