Just thought I would chip in. You can just dump a contest when external forces come into play. Just like the Cradle example of Jane. Contest don't always have to end with a winner or loser. Sometimes folks but out. Or a Dragon rises just as your preparing to make your parting shot to charge up your Reaching Moon Temple....
