Presumably you continue to enforce the rules about only bumping once?

"Ahh, You've failed and the NPC succeeded, this looks bad for you.."

"I'll spend a Hero point so we both succeed"

"He spends one too - Now he's criticalled!"

"oops"

And on HP. Do you/should you encourage your players to describe what action they are taking to boost their success (or avoid failure) with their HP, or do you just assume it is part and parcel of the previously declared bid?
