I can explain the name change.

HeroQuest was initially announced as a sequel to RuneQuest to handle more powerful characters - to give more room for developing RuneLords and RunePriests up to Hero level.

That was back in the early days of RuneQuest and - although several versions of the rules got into playtest - none were ever found worthy of publication.

Years after Games Workshop with Hasbro produced the Heroquest board game and got the HeroQuest trademark.

Between the publication of Hero Wars and HeroQuest Issaries were able to get the HeroQuest trademark (the GW game was out of print by then).

So the real reason for the name change is that at the time Hero Wars was published the name Greg wanted was effectively "taken" - but it became available in time for the new and improved edition.
