It is a specific bonus to your close combat when using the specified type of
weapon (Greatsword, Sword & Shield, Shortsword& Shield, Rapier & Dagger,
whatever).
It is *not* a straight add to your Close Combat ability.
You'd list it something like:
Close Combat 5w
Spear & Shield
Sword & Shield
Greatsword (+5) (assuming you chose Greatsword as your +5 gift)
