Or perhaps you do the decrement/increment of a double 'Young/Aged' ability discussed previously - but the changes in this are explicitly tied to the long term experience you hand out for keywords. So the player gets a chunk of increased effectiveness as the years pass but they have to take it with a bit of arthritic pain on cold winter mornings...
