Id recommend taking a peek at how CAPES does it. That is, you can play, for a period before you swap characters, a gloomy, windy, freezing night, for example, or the reluctance of the masses. Hell, you could play midwinter depression if you wished. Ive played a runaway Nazi train powered by the dead, not too far off a fortress. Its merely a matter of choosing five abilities and then using them.
