In my Glorantha at least, this is going to be pretty hard, because opponents of suitable power will get 'drawn in' whether you want them to or not, and regardless of any planning you might attempt. Unless you're doing a Practice Quest, of course, in which case there shouldn't be much of a problem.

The problem here, I suspect, is that the Quest is quite likely to test you on the things the god *is* supposed to be good at, and which you're probably not. Now, if, as you say, there are no X specialists around, that may still be your best bet, but I'm not sure I'd count it as a 'cheat', since the overall chance of success in the quest is unlikely to be improved.
