Mass effort rules?

Is anyone using the mass effort rules? If so, how well do they work for you? (just curious. They look interesting, but I've not really seen discussion of them).

Also, was thinking that this might be an alternate way to determine blessings from liturgists upon the congregation. That way the piety of the congregation would matter, so that for example a dozen extremely holy monks would get stronger blessings a bunch of people who can barely remember to mouth the words. Take the average piety of the congregation as the key, with the liturgist as the leader of the effort.
