Wrong dichotomy. It's not about more abstracted vs less (all RPGs are highly abstracted as simulations, though people will have tastes about those levels). In this case we're talking about the system providing a feeling that it's simulating something in-game, vs being about drama - about catering to player emotions.

Before anybody gets the idea that I'm down on RPGs as simulations, where I come from, I'm considered quite "simmy" myself. I just have a heavily dramatic side as well that just doesn't require the sort of "consistency" that some people seem to want.
