Possible justification for the rules: Perhaps it's because spirits aren't people, and they need to be contacted through a relationship with their great spirit. Maybe you can only "make a business contact" through a network instead of direct contact. (There's at least one country in the world where this is the general case, so it's not beyond imagining that spirits are even more bound to a social network.)

Not saying you can't do what you want, but showing how the rules can make sense. If this spirit turns out to be a tradition spirit of the PC's tradition, then you already have a social network in place.
