Actually, there are specific rules for a Pyrrhic victory -- this example is actually a dramatically close victory.

This is termed an "assist," and is often used by healers in combat. However, your friends can help you get a better relative position via any appropriate action -- they just don't score RP against your foe to directly win.
(There are of course group contests as well -- assists are a way the entire party can contribute to a contest that formally involves only one member.)
