Though of course most BG initiates are ritual temple guardians. The ones that actually have stories told about them (ie player characters) will I think almost always be those that turned to BG following some traumatic event.

It's a mistake to assume that player characters are typical, of either cult or culture, but our games are rarely going to be about the common herd.
