It's how you tell the story isn't it?

"OK, so he swipes at you, misses and dies" sounds rubbish.

"OK, he swings his sword, lets out a mighty yell, swings at you, but you step out of the way and his momentum carries him over the cliff/down the stairs/into the swimming pool" could work perfectly well.

"OK, he swings at you again, but agin you duck. This time though he's looking exhausted, he staggers two, three, steps, failing to recover his balance. His heavy armour is weighing him down and when he misses his footing he falls and struggles weakly to get up. He's dropped his sword, what do you do?" would work for me.

Anyway, isn't one of the oriental martial arts (aikido?) pretty much entirely dodges?
