My intent was that Winning Smile was your main ability in all cases, but sometimes it was not sufficient by itself and so had to be augmented.
And if you had chosen to woo this lady by no only your winning smile but also doing a little asking around in her guild, that is not something that would have lingering consequences on other guild relations. It is very specific to this contest.
The narrative part was that using a combination of abilities makes sense, instead of just one (but relying on things that happened earlier).
Again, my personal preference is that helping skills not require a roll, just add the +3. Pick one, add it. Simple to do, and it seemed consistent with a narrative game.
