I have a very simple fix for this: don't use 'GSC's. I'd much rather the space was used on giving slightly more detailed advice on determining collective ratings for sides, which you could then use to resolve by a simple contest.
However, I'd think if you're a big GSC fan, I'd use the same mastery cancelling rule as for other contests: cancel by the lowest mastery level of _all_ the participants.
