Well, we should assume that the Hero has built up his Mortal Wound level above the base two.

Let's presume the Hero rolls a Success (the worst he can do with two bumps up). The Hero suffers a major Wound. Let us say the bolt goes through his right leg. That's the worst he can suffer unless the Hunter has some kind of edge which would bump it to a Mortal Wound. He is bumped down one but still has an effective bump on the poor Hunter.

Because he's wounded it isn't a double bump. His failure becomes a success.

The best (from the Hunter's POV) that can happen is that the Hunter criticals too and give the Hero a minor Wound (-1 to future actions) The worst is he fumbles and gets a Major Wound. If the Hero has an Edge that works the Hunter has taken a Mortal Wound and is lying on the ground dying.

It's a system of two rolls....
