I think it would be Orlanth the Farmer. Maintain Stead is one of his affinties. Or possibly Barntar -- who is the specialist version of Orlanth the Farmer. Of course, founding or adopting a new Bloodline into the clan would probably be something from Orlanth Rex (Goverment affinity).

The ritual? Probably involves a ring ceremony (a very typically Orlanthi thing) and something to do with the boundaries of the stead. Blessings and the like placed on the house, espeically on the roof-trees and the roof-beams. If its part of the clan, other priests and priestesses could bless the parts sacred to them -- Mroalta (SP!) blesses the pig sty, Uralda the cow byre, Asrelia (hoarder of wealth) the barns and silos.

I think raising a stead also involves much beer and sweat and women bringing out great quanities of hearty food. Possbily folk-songs will be perpetrated. Somehow, I'm reminded of how I went about building my own cottage in the hinterland (or helping my uncle build a barn)

Boundaries though, seem important in Clan ceremonies but are probably less significant to a stead, particularly if its Odal Property which is sort of held in common.

Or, it could be a few isolated families in the hinterland -- and the ceremony is essentially "this is my ground now."

This discussion is more properly on the HeroWars list and I'm cross posting it there

Hope this helps.
