I think this issue is very much a "go with the story" one. I can't see a person being deluged in fire and not having singed/burnt clothing - in KoS 151, Harrek and his merry band are Sunspeared by the Solar *and* Lunar magicians, and his remaining twelve guys have "half melted armor". So magic (high-powered, to be sure) can affect armor/possessions *in some circumstances*. Of course, we don't have the HW mechanics of that fight laid out in front of us, so we don't know if the "half-melted" armor was reduced in Rank or not...

Magic that specifically targets posessions (shield breakers, sword breakers, etc) is different than collateral damage from the Sunspear, of course. Most generic bronze stuff should probably just get a +10 resistance (HW, 234, Enchantment Resistance Chart) or total 4w resistance, unless the feat/spell is specifically "Break Bronze Sword", in which case the magic is so specialized that I wouldn't give the sword any extra resistance (the additional oomph to overcome that resistance is "built in" to the spell). If the weapon is enchanted in some way (and thus has a entry on the character sheet), them probably take the hero's ability with the item (Elric's "Storm Bringer 10w3") as the resistance - using the material reistance chart is up to the narrator.

So it's not necessarily *my* magical resistance that is protecting the object, though I do have *some* ability towards protecting my really special stuff

And of course, some stuff can have additional words to the effect that it is magically protected - I'd probably make it costs a line item in List mode, or words in Narrative, so it's up to the player to decide if he wants "insurance" not...
