The problem with a saddle without stirrups is that you spend to much of your time trying to stay onboard which cna distract you from dealing with rude strangers. A lance charge is one thing (until you impact that is) -- swinging a sword or mace is entirely another. But the 4 hour saddle would probably suffice -- BUT it restricts body mobility fairly heavily..
