 That's quite neat and saves rolling two dice (in fact I think I'll use that for most simple contests where I can't be bothered rolling for things).

However you still need to know what level of augmentation you are going for. This I don't quite like.

Heortling facing an enemy clansman: <mumbles a small prayer>"Orlanth grant me a small boost to my sword fighting skills" goes for a +2. Heortling facing a hoard of broo: <screams>"Orlanth give me a massive boost to my combat skill" goes for a +4.

Except under current rules Heortling 2 would never try that because Orlanth would probably give him a penalty (what a nice god).
