I think it already does this, via the 'overbid' rule. At least if you ignore the technicality that it strictly doesn't apply in one-against one contests, which I assume everyone is.

In a duel between Bob the Elmali and Tinker the Yinkini, it would go:

Narrator: Bob, you start.

Bob: I raise my shield and manoeuvre for position, 3 AP.

Tinker: I scream and leap.

Narrator: Do you want to try and do that before Bob gets into position, or wait your turn?

Tinker: before.

Narrator: OK Bob, Tinker is trying to pre-empt you. Do you want to overbid again?

Bob: No.

Narrator: OK Tinker cross off 5AP, and state your action.

Tinker: I scream and leap, 14AP.

Bob: I try to get my shield in the way.

Narrator: OK both roll close combat.

As an aside, has anyone tried using poker chips for AP bids? It seems like it would add a nice touch, and also reduce the amount of gamesspeak  needed.

Richard
