I'll say this again; then i will shut up on the subject:

I'm not saying that you can run away from _defeat_ after the fact. I'm saying that a character should have some chance of running away from Certain Death or other nasty post-combat actions on the victor's part. Having run away in this fashion does not alter the fact that he was defeated.
