Actually, I have a very strong opinion on this matter.
Let him go. Let the calming fail if it fails. Let him kill half or
more of the party. Let him deal with the consequences both as a
character and a player. The other characters will probably want
nothing more to do with him. They may have to kill him to stop him.
Let him see the true consequences of his choice.
