RQ is the obvious comparison, and if someone defending HW makes a comparison to RQ, then that's only natural, as it's our common frame of reference. "HW does it this way, which is different to RQ, which did it that way" is not, AFAICS, insulting to anyone. I don't recall seeing anyone express the "crappy attitude" that you refer to.
