Yes, sire, but that's assuming your enemy doesn't just let you go. Maybe they deliberately chased you off (in which case a ransom would be a welcome surprise...). I was more talking about the result after you had already dropped below 0 AP, or if your enemy allowed you to run unopposed. Ransoms are, naturally, an alternative to getting sliced, but 'defeat' needn't mean you get killed or captured, it depends on the opposition's intent. Getting thrown out of the pub into the gutter is another example.
