C-d-G is possible at -11, which does mean a bid of 12 (or a crit/fumble combination), barring edges of course. But not 20. With augments, it's skill could be 13, 14, more. By ambushing, it could use it's sneaky skills to get the deer to that -11, at no risk to injury at all (if the deer wins, it just runs away, not fights back).
