Buy (beg, borrow or steal) a copy of the Player's Handbook?
Basically, you roll 1d20, add your bonuses, subtract your penalties, and if you roll the target number or over you succeed, otherwise you fail. Basic system is simple enough, but the rules book then go into thousands of special cases and modifiers. If any of my group (not that they would) complain about the Hero Wars lack of clear rules, I'll run a session using D&D - that'll teach 'em.
