Yes, but spirits don't work that way, assuming you are using it as an augment and not a new ability (if you don't have a similar ability, and are using the spirit as a new ability, all bets are off, and it's wonderful being an animist, a new ability AND AP to boot), then you either get 10AP or a +1 or +2 augment. And then the AP become more useful than the small bonus.

But if you can break even, and win sometimes, extra AP will help a load.

Yes, I can see players tending to think in terms of Integration far more than fetishes, it's definitely better in the end. For Traditions that don't integrate, an 'ordinary' animist (experienced, but not heroic) will never beat an 'ordinary' theist in magic without a barrow load of fetishes, or some heavy specials from his friendly shaman.
