I wasn't thinking of having it like a mystic strike, to be honest, that hadn't even occurred to me.

Apparently it's a stroke not a strike, but it doesn't matter in this example. I'd envisioned it as a single stroke of the sword which on a top notch success (be it a critical or a complete victory) turns your sword into the incarnation of the death rune. Any lesser success and it won't work, or it simply hurts a lot (to be slightly facetious). I figure the stroke bit implies that it's a one shot, you have only one go at it

Perhaps you're right, it is a little bit too groady to use in play, it becomes like those ridiculous AD&D "Power Word: Kill" spells.

The only thing is that death is an all or nothing kind of thing...
