when the acting character must transfer or forfeit AP to the opponent?

While Edges and Handicaps are known to adjust the quantity of AP staked "when the character's opponent must transfer or forfeit AP" (c.f. p.134-136), exactly what is the effect of Edges and Handicaps when instead, the acting character must transfer or forfeit AP to the opponent?

In our playtest, Deshera Nal of the Ibex Moon Society had 13 AP remaining and chose to stake 12 in an attack against Saewulf Bjrinjolfsson of the Hidden Gale (expecting a further edge of ^1 for the difference between her weapon ^3 and his armor ^2). The dice showed her success versus his critical success yielding "Loser forfeits 1x". Does she forfeit a flat 12 AP (as staked)? Or, does she forfeit 13 AP (the quantity she might have gained if vice versa)? Or, does she forfeit 11 AP (12 staked modified by the winner's ^1 handicap of lesser armor)?
