While this is true I certainly don't see this leading to telegraphing an attack by doing a showy routine before the attack. The only reason I can think of is that one may hope the "badass karate dude" show unnerves the opponent.
  Intimidation with a showy set of manouvers (or kata) or a sword-dance is still different from a martial arts attack. The very thing any serious MA aims for is the elimination of telegraphing the attacks.

If the fight starts off at a distanse, and with the combatants sizing each other up, then I can see the martial artist jumping up and down and limbening up his body, but the actual attacks are as fast and nontelegraphed as he can make them.

Sporting competitions and optimal conditions are not what the MA practitioner faces in an actual combat. If your PC:s get attacked by shinobi (ninja) assasins you can assume the shinobi have warmed up and stretched beforehand.
