    But then she has to extend the spell, no? And as you say, how long is a round? It depends on the action, I think. In a furious melee a round is much shorter than when waiting for a foe to show up. And when do the foes show up? Does she knows? Maybe you can give her a number of rounds to prepare based on her level of success with Prepare Ambush.

    But, again, she has to extend duration, since the contest itself has yet to begin (in fact she doesn't even know when it'll begin). Very much like in RQ: the characters cast their spells and the enemy shows up after 5 minutes and 1 second.

    Time and probability. After all for every failure of any level she gets a penalty... Actually my players prefer to aim for spectacular augmentations and invest a HP.
