About duelling and the HW system:

I would think that the strike would essentially be a parting shot....the contest has pretty much ended by then in some ways.

The skill used would not sword, so much as <appropriate school name> technique. You stand, you stare, you adjust your position by a millimetre, you shift your balance impercepibly, you look for the tension in your opponents face....and just like with the HW system, the higher skilled combatant can generally sit back and make small bids and usually win, while the lower skilled combatant may find that in the end he has to bid big (actually make a strike), and hope to get lucky.

Of course, you could just adopt the mystic strike rules. They don't have the same drama, but in some ways they describe the process about right--a dramatic, all or nothing, strike. Technique would probably be your score for both strike and counter.

Let us know how it works out, it is interesting to hear how people use the rules for different things, because it gives ideas to keep in the back of your mind for later.
