I am pretty sure that summonings are rituals and they DO use the
highest magic resistance or something similar.
With a ritual, you can summon some incredibly nasty creatures as the
ritual components and supporters can add on very, very nicely to the
summoner's affinity/talent/grimoire to overcome them. Better control
them at that moment too...
